Фильм об отважном Принце Персии Дастане — это не просто кино, это настоящая сказка. Именно восточные сказания и легенды всегда связаны с магией и чудесами. Они завораживают сознание и погружают в удивительный мир Востока. В мир, где в вековом песке живы еще отголоски древнейших цивилизаций, где палящее солнце отражается в блестящих доспехах доблестных героев, где прекрасные принцессы знают волшебные тайны и заклятия.

Майк Ньюэлл создал из компьютерной игры такую сказку, которую без натяжки можно назвать восточной! В ней есть место чудесам и магии, предательству и любви, и, конечно же, подвигу. В этом фильме все поражает воображение — города, равнины и горы, барханы сыпучего песка и даже одежда и оружие героев. Режиссер Майк Ньюэлл собрал в картине замечательных актеров, которым действительно хочется верить: и злодеям, и героям!

Создание фильма
Первая съемочная площадка фильма «Принц Персии: Пески времени» находилась на высоте 8200 метров над уровнем моря, в горной деревушке Oukaimden, на отроге Атласских Гор, окруженной поселениями берберов. Для того чтобы приступить к работе, актерам и съемочной группе понадобилось некоторое время на акклиматизацию. В Марракеше был установлен огромный, размером с футбольное поле, тент с кондиционерами. Здесь костюмеры и гримеры работали над внешностью актеров массовки. Отдельный тент пришлось поставить для стирки и сушки костюмов. В последний день съемок в Марракеше температура перевалила за +50 °C — снимали в песчаных дюнах Мерзуга.

По официальному заявлению координатора съемок в Марокко Грегора Мово, во время съемок «Принца Персии» кинематографисты осушили 1.114.894 бутылки с водой. Для того, чтобы очистить место съемок от змей и скорпионов, был нанят местный профессионал.

Художник по реквизиту и сотрудники его «кузницы» выковали и собрали около 3500 предметов оружия, включая мечи, ножы, щиты, копья, топоры, стрелы, луки, колчаны, кинжалы и другое оружие. Экстерьер города Аламут был выстроен вокруг древней 700-летней стены в деревне Таммаслот, в 20 километрах на юго-запад от Марракеша. Для строительства художнику-постановщику Вольфу Крюгеру потребовалось около 48 километров труб для возведения строительных лесов и 400 тонн гипса. В строительство было вовлечено 350 человек. Красочные фрески и панно, которые украшали съемочную площадку, рисовались в течение 7 недель.Для постройки потребовалось 3000 деревянных брусов 2,4х1х2 метра, 21 метр досок 7,5х2,5 сантиметра и 40 тонн гипса для облицовки. Работа над воротами заняла около 14 недель.

Интересные факты
1) В фильме присутствуют элементы из всех игр серии Prince of Persia: сюжет из The Sands of Time, кинжал выглядит как в Two Thrones, доспех принца с медальоном из Warrior Within, при использовании кинжала у принца появляются песчаные татуировки как у Тёмного принца из третьей части игры, так же один из ассасинов использует цепь, которой был поражен принц в Two Thrones. В пустыне Дастан носит такой же головной убор, как и Принц в Ghost of The Past, и многое другое.

2) Если в фильме присутствуют ассасины и их крепость, непонятно, почему священным городом Тамины назван именно Аламут, ведь он являлся городом ассасинов.

3) Несмотря на то, что идея взята из одноименной игры, в фильме есть ряд значительных изменений. Таких как: У принца появилось имя, но пропало благородное происхождение, У короля Шахрамана теперь не два сына, а три, визирь был заменен дядей Низамом, а принцесса Фара оказалась переименованной в Тамину, она же была отличным стрелком, а в фильме она оказалась жрицей.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time The film about the brave Prince of Persia Dastane isn't just a movie, it is the real fairy tale. East stories and legends are always connected with magic and miracles. They bewitch consciousness and immerse in the surprising world of the East. In the world where echoes of the most ancient civilizations are still alive in age-long sand, where the scorching sun is reflected in brilliant armors of valorous heroes, where beautiful princesses know magic secrets and spells.

Mike Newell has created such a fairy tale which without a strain it is possible to name east from a computer game! In it there is place for miracles and magic, treachery and love, and certainly a feat. In this film all amazes imagination — cities, plains and mountains, barchans of quicksand and even clothes and the weapon of heroes. The director Mike Newell has collected in his film remarkable actors whom one really wants to trust: both villains and heroes!

In a role of the Prince Jake Gyllenhaal has opened itself in a new way: in this film the actor is as a jolt.

The fearless soldier, the loving son and the brother, gentle, free, fair — probably that is the way the real princes must be — not by birth, but by spirit. His film partner Gemma Arterton at first has shown the heroine too haughty and pride that put off a little, but then her severe look and upturned chin became absolutely proved — thus the actress has disclosed princess Tamina has laid her more royalty and grandeur.

To visit ancient Persia for some hours, to crack a veil of east secrets, to see valorous soldiers and artful villainy of the great empire, to admire the beauty of ancient cities and east princesses and to see how Prince of Persia Dastan becomes the great hero — the subjugator of sands of time.

Film production
The first film set of «Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time» was at the height of 8200 meters above sea level, in mountain small village Oukaimden, on a spur of the Atlas Mountains, surrounded by the settlements of Berbers. To start working the actors and the film crew needed some time for acclimatization. In Marrakech there has been settled a huge, of the size of a football field, awning with conditioners. Here costumiers and make-up artists worked over appearance of crowd actors. It was necessary to settle one more awning for washing and drying of suits. The last day of the shootings in Marrakech the temperature has passed over +50 °C — the shootings were in sandy dunes of Merzug.

According to the official statement of the shootings coordinator in Morocco Gregor Movo, the cinematographers have drained 1.114.894 bottles of water during the shootings of «Prince of Persia». The local professional has been employed to clear a place of shootings off snakes and scorpions.

The scenery art-director and employees of his "smithy" have shaped and have collected about 3500 subjects of the weapon, including swords, knives, boards, spears, axes, arrows, onions, quivers, daggers and other weapon. The exterior of the city of Alamut has been built round an ancient 700-year-old wall in the village Tammaslot, in 20 kilometers on the southwest from Marrakech. The production designer Volf Kruger needed about 48 kilometers of pipes for erection of building woods and 400 tons of plaster to build it. 350 persons have been involved in building. Colourful frescos and a panel which decorated the set were drawn within 7 weeks. The construction needed 3000 cleats 2,4х1х2 meter, 21 meter of boards 7,5х2,5 centimeter and 40 tons of plaster for facing work. Work over the collars has taken about 14 weeks.

Interesting facts
1) The film includes the elements from all games of Prince of Persia series: the plot from The Sands of Time, a dagger looks as in Two Thrones, an armor of the prince with a medallion from Warrior Within, at usage of a dagger the prince has sandy tattoos as the Dark prince from the third part of the game had, also one of Assassins uses a chain by which the prince in Two Thrones has been hit. In desert Dastan wears the same headdress, as the Prince in Ghost of The Past, and so on.

2) If there are Assassins and their fortress in the film, it is strange why Tamina’s sacred city is Alamut, as it was the city of Assassins.

3) In spite of the fact that the idea is taken from the eponymous game, in the film there are a number of considerable changes. Such as: the prince had a name, but the noble origin has disappeared, king Shahraman now has not two but three sons, the vizier has been replaced by uncle Nizam, and princess Fara has turned out to be renamed in Tamina, she was an excellent marksman, and in the film she is a priestess.

4) Parkour Adviser became a Frenchman David Bell who actually is the inventor of this kind of sport.

5) The Film crew had to struggle against cruel sandy storms for some times.

6) During the shootings of «Prince of Persia» the cinematographers have drained 1.114.894 bottles of water.

10) In February, 2008 the Iranian star of Golshift Farahani together with Gemma Arterton has been invited to London for screen tests for Tamina part, but she has been arrested at the airport by the Iranian authorities because of the participation in Ridley Scott’s film « Body of Lies » (2008). For it the actress was forbidden to leave the country during half a year.

11) Ray-Fillip Santos has been replaced by an actor Toby Kebbell because of motorcycle failure during exterior shooting.
