В понедельник, 19 июля, на открывшейся в предместье Лондона международной выставке-авиасалоне Фарнборо состоялась презентация полноразмерного макета реактивного автомобиля Bloodhound SSC, который, как надеются разработчики, сможет разогнаться до 1610 километров в час (в 1,4 раза больше скорости звука). Машина стала результатом трехгодовой работы над формой кузова и аэродинамикой, после 10 отвергнутых вариантов, не прошедших тесты. Об этом сообщает BBC.

Макет реактивного автомобиля изготовлен из пенопласта и стекловолокна, его длина составляет 12,8 метра, а масса достигает 950 килограммов. При создании кузова реальной машины планируется применять карбон и титан, а весить она будет около шести тонн. В движение Bloodhound SSC станет приводиться сверхзвуковым двигателем от истребителя Eurofighter Typhoon. Мощность мотора составляет 135 тысяч лошадиных сил, а максимальный крутящий момент равен 90 тысячам Нм.

Ожидается, что до максимальной скорости автомобиль разгонится примерно за 40 секунд, преодолев при этом расстояние в 7,2 километра. Такая же дистанция ему потребуется для полной остановки. Для замедления будут использоваться специальные аэродинамические элементы и карбоновые тормозные механизмы.

По словам главного инженера проекта Марка Чапмана, разработчики уже близки к началу сборки реального автомобиля. Он заявил, что первый заезд этой машины, которая попытается установить новый мировой рекорд скорости, состоится в конце 2011 или начале 2012 года. К этому времени Bloodhound SSC будет полностью построен и переправлен в Южную Америку, где на территории высохшего озера и планируется показать скорость в 1610 километров в час. Управлять реактивной машиной станет пилот Королевских ВВС Энди Грин.

Отметим, что команда британских инженеров, работающих над Bloodhound SSC, в 1997 году построила реактивный автомобиль Thrust SSC и установила на нем мировой рекорд скорости в 1228 километров в час. За рулем этого прототипа также находился Энди Грин.
